Whilst looking for tracks for the Grateful For The Dead thread, I saw this at the side of a Jerry Reed clip

What a collection!
Convoy & Smokey And The Bandit (#1) are still amongst my favourite films 40 years on!
I definitely remember watching BJ & The Bear on television too, but I don't think Movin On wasn't shown in British TV

Absolutely loved Convoy at the time, not sure if I would watch it today though. Smokey and the bandit is a timeless classic, with classic lines delivered immaculately.

Junior, when we get home, I'm gonna slap yo mamma.:laugh::laugh::laugh:

The sound of that down-shift, as RD crests the hill is music to me, & it's such a wonderful sequence..... if you can forgive the camera lights reflecting on the door of the RS700

He's certainly not afraid to give her the gun, is he. Probably shows my ignorance, but I never even knew a 2 stroke was used like that.

I'm not sure if that has the 4cyl or the 6cyl version, if it's the 6 it will sound like a 4 stroke 12cyl as the cylinders fire every revolution instead of every other revolution.

See, I think that sounds clearly like a 2 stroke, regardless of cylinders. It may just be the speed at which it gets to the red line but certainly never ever heard of that in a truck. Every day is a school day.

As a young old boy in Flintham, Notts in the early 70s, Percy Sheppard (sp) had a small transport business running Comma 2 stroke lorries, mostly tippers and flatbed rigids for agricultural work.
The 2 stroke used to sound like a bag of nails, very very noisy and high revving I seem to remember. I also seem to remember he had to change gears...oooh, every 5 seconds or so

Yep, the Commer had a 3cyl engine with 6 pistons and was known as the 'knocker'

EDIT - With the stroke being half that of a conventional engine they could rev a lot higher too
