One of the bike shops on my route to work (A specialised shop in old hill) has twice made direct negative comments on my weight when I've been in, and on a third occasion, when I went in for a 14" tyre for my daughters bike, looked me up and down, sneered and said 'For a pushchair is it'?
Now I'm not thin (15 stone and 6" tall), but it's an astonishing way to judge someone rather than serve. Now I only go in if it's the only place on the way when I badly need something. Given how much I've spent since I started cycling, that it was one of the first shops I went into after I bought my bike, and that I cycle past it every work day, not the best decisions on their part.
