The GCN video isnt far off what I was doing when winter commuting although I used a sprayer, paper towel to dry. WD on the calipers and derailleurs is no problem of course but I preferred to keep it off the chain. WD on the brake blocks never caused a problem, just a bit squeeky at first.
What I did find to my cost is the possibility of water ingress into bolt threads and most importantly for me, the downtube barrel adjusters which in my case, never really got used. They siezed rock solid. In the end I had to resort to shearing them off and concocting a home made extension to take a tap so icould re thread them...a right old faff that would have been unattainable for folks without some workshop equipment.
I always antisieze everyrhing on a new bike now.
