During my visit to London last weekend I got the task of fitting a cycle computer to a friends bike. The supplied magnet had a plastic nut and screw thread which stripped before it was anywhere near tight, so off we toddle to the LBS (Can't remember the name, but in Hornchurch) for a replacement. Not only did he not have one, but he tried to sell us a new computer instead on the basis that "Magnets have to be matched to the computer and any old thing just won't work".

Where do these idiots get stuff like this?

I felt sorry for the attendant at a local bike shop when he was explaining to a customer the reason why his tubes kept failing, the customer had 18-23c tubes for his 700x38c tyres...

I went into another bike shop today and asked for a brake and gear cable set for a road bike (I was armed with all the information needed if asked), he said he had them but he wouldn't sell me one until he's seen the bike personally:dry:

One of the best bits of service I had at a bike shop was this saturday - Edinburgh Cycles in Manchester. Spent c. 2-3 hours buying a bike for the OH. Only downside was he insisted the saddle was c. 3cm too high (we took the current bike in so we could compare and contrast set up). It isn't - the SPD shoes make my OH about 3cm higher.^_^

Evans out at Chill FactorE are ok. We bought my wife's hybrid and the tad a long some years back. The mechanic was doing the sale as the others were busy. Only down side was he didn't know the till. Not an issue as we were delayed, but it's not the blokes fault.

Even better to ask for a clutch cable for the same vehicle.

That is cruel, I cannot wait.^_^

Mind you, if Apple ever produced a bike computer, I bet it would not work without the special Apple coded-matching magnets - there'd be some bollocks about safety-critical to justify it too
