Try not to get any in your bearings, and that cheese will be a bugger to get off your chainset, so be careful.@yello totally agree the people on the bikes are the ones to blame not the software that choose to provide them with their virtual kudos. Anyway been sat in the garden giving the bike it's Sunday deep clean and polish with a cold beer and a cheese and onion roll so my world is once again in equilibrium![]()
Isn't that what most clubs do to novice riders, try to put them off by tearing their legs off or making them hill climb inappropriate terrain? Or is it just thta the clubs I've had the misfortune to have joined all tended to behave like they want to keep cycling to themselves and new members have to earn their place?Yesterday I met some riders from a club in Halifax who were taking some office workers, including one guy who was seriously overweight, out for a massive club ride over some of the biggest hills Lancashire has to offer. They must have been riding easily 100 miles and 10,000 feet of climb. Crazy. Why do that to an unfit rider? It will put his off cycling for life.
It's easier to blame the group/club isn't it? Nobody wants to admit how unfit they are if they can't keep up...Isn't that what most clubs do to novice riders, try to put them off by tearing their legs off or making them hill climb inappropriate terrain? Surely if clubs want to grow they need to find ways to enable the less fit to join in not actively find ways to put them off. It's easier to blame the group/club isn't it? Nobody wants to admit how unfit they are if they can't keep up...
It's not that difficult, just have more runs (my club has 4) but it doesn't stop people overstating how fit they think they are and joining the wrong run (which as far as forums goes seems to be quite common**)Surely if clubs want to grow they need to find ways to enable the less fit to join in not actively find ways to put them off.
My local club works differently. Or it did when I joined. You can't just rock up and join the Sports groups (three) on your own recognizance, nor indeed the senior intermediates (two or three intermediate groups most Sundays) but have to start in one of the social groups or the bottom end intermediates. Not unless you are with another club member who will vouch for you and who will ride home with you when you crack. If that don't suit then maybe the club doesn't either. It's not that difficult, just have more runs (my club has 4) but it doesn't stop people overstating how fit they think they are and joining the wrong run (which as far as forums goes seems to be quite common**)
**The expectation then is the group(often well established) slowing for you. Selfish much?

Seems pretty logical to me, are they not all like that then?My local club works differently. Or it did when I joined.
