Perhaps the fairest way is for members to volunteer to be a mod and submit a c/v in the same way as applying for a job. Then the c/v's could be sifted by existing mods, and Shaun (genuflect) of course by reference to the c/v and past posts. That way, the members who think they could do the job get the chance to prove it. However, the members should then have the right to dismiss a mod who can't cut it. (Not Shaun of course).

after the c+ exodus shaun realized that so many new members overnight would need some mods, so he asked for volunteers. you'd have to ask him how he chose from the applicants, or if he just trusted his luck.

subsequent recruiting has been done by mods nominating and shaun making a decision, often on the number of votes cast.

Oh heck, my post was not meant to be taken too seriously:sad:. i personally don't care who are the mods......Shaun runs a tight ship and I have no issues. (Mind you, I suspect one of my posts was pulled.....but c'est la vie.)

We all know the theory. The only flaw in that is that you end up with the mods being a clique and all chums with each other and no diversification as we have now. It all works fine until you run into something like peanut or Joe where moderators themselves start misbehaving. Not that I have a problem with the current lot, they are all nice people in their ways and suitable forum institutions.

I think Shaun runs a 'casting couch', where all who wish to become mods must submit to his depraved lusts.

+1

Thats the theory Alec  and probably the only sensible way to do it initially, But wouldnt a few wildcard mods thrown in make life a little more fun?

I don't see the flaw if it's working and they're all nice people. There is no flaw - hurrah!!!!

Joe and Peanut both flounced out IIRC.

I'm interested to know what you mean by misbehaving? Do you think anyone abused their power, or do you just mean that mods, in their normal forum guises, expressed personal opinions?

We are all forummers too, and entitled to act as indivuduals within the rules. If any of us are embroiled in a thread, we will declare interests (anyway, it'll be obvious) and keep out of decisions.
