Unbelievable Pannier Bargain
Went down to EBC this afternoon to look at panniers, since my cheapie chinese "Ortleib Rolltop Fake" gave up after I was a little bit enthusiastic with how much weight I could cram in.

Figured on buying perhaps their own brand 40 litres, fitting them then going off into town to do my shopping.

Spotted a pair of Ortleib 40 litre rolltops in white, with a tatty box, at £66.95. Couldn't find anything wrong with them, even got them to check the price as it didn't seem right and yes, that particular pair was indeed £67 despite the other identical ones being £91.

Then I got my 15% discount for pre-registering my interest in the shop on top! Pair of waterproof Ortleib Rollers for £57 - couldn't believe it.

Clipped them straight on and off I went. And was so glad of them because it didn't half belt it down for 5 minutes or so on my way back from town later!

Discovered a new vegan strawberry cheesecake in Holland and Barratt - can't wait for teatime now! Long hike planned tomorrow to walk it off...

Full marks to Aldi for Cycle Parking
New Aldi opened last week near town so figured I'd check it out. Discount supermarket, not expecting much in the way of facilities. My jaw dropped in surprise when I saw a row of covered Sheffield stands!! Well spaced, didn't count them, think there was about 8. So, Tesco, Sainsury etc.. If a discount supermarket can do it......

Since the new Aldi is only just off my normal commuting route, that is where my custom shall go from now on!

Oh that's interesting. Weird eh, there are now two covered stands in the area and bigger names - wilkinsons, waitrose, sainsburys mini have nowt.

White Ortlieb panniers, perhaps that's why they were cheap .......?


Sainsburys here have 11 sheffield stands all under cover, 3 huge fat ones the size of elliephant legs under the large porchway that goes around the edge of the supermarket. The other 8 are under an adjacent huge purpose built shelter. Waitrose have about 30 sheffield stands under cover outside the rear of their store .

I like them...and the other £91 ones were white also

I think that's why they are called Sheffield stands. Because everyone else must have nicked them from Sheffield and left us with none.

Seriously, 8 stands is quite remarkable for a store here. Waitrose have none that I've seen, just some old railings left from old trolley parks when it was Safeway.
