If there was a stage race in Scotland, where would it go?

It really is a great route.....did it in May....weather was fab and scenery equal
Just having a good look at my OS maps. It really is remote up there, isn't it! I worked out that my cousin and I would have a 200 mile round trip to do the Applecross loop and then come back. Fort William would be the only significant town on the journey!

we would have to fit in the crow road, the dukes pass, the glenshee ski centre, infact most of the ski centres....also a finish up the hill to Stirling castle would be...it`s on the cobbles

But it is worth it :-) If you do, do it I think you will be surprised to find just how many people still live there despite the clearances...

Some stage suggestions (with no particular thoughts to linking them up...):

From Glasgow over the Campsies to the Trossachs, around loch Katrine, back into Stirling, finishing below the castle.

Galloway Forest Park, something inspired by the Obree sportive.

Pitlochry or Dundee to Aberdeen via Glenshee and the Lecht

Stage finish at Cairngorm ski centre

ITT (half-)loop of Arran

Oban-Fort William-Glenfinnan-Ardnamurchan lighthouse

we would have to fit in the crow road, the dukes pass, the glenshee ski centre, infact most of the ski centres....also a finish up the hill to Stirling castle would be...it`s on the cobbles

At finish at Stirling Castle could make for good TV, as could the Cairngorm ski centre, or Glenshee or the Lecht. But not finishes at all three ski centres in the same year... ;-)

I remember my mum talking with our Scottish family about the clearances when I was young, but I never thought to ask her what they were! I watched Neil Oliver's History of Scotland recently and it was all explained there. It surprised me how little I knew of Scottish history, or even English. I knew more about French, German and Italian history than our own because I studied them for my History O-level!

I have never done it but a friend did and he said it was one of the finest rides he's ever done!

I have a younger second cousin on the west coast who is a keen cyclist. Perhaps I will do the ride with him one day? I am going to visit next autumn so I might suggest it.

Did it in October after CCers convinced me it was a good idea. Glad I'm a member here as I'd not have had the balls to attempt otherwise and it was a fantastic ride/achievement.
