Hi

I am planning at some stage to attempt to build my own road bike. Im not to sure as yet what frame im gonna go for or what the spec will be (if i ever get round to doing it) but im definately gonna do it.

If you were in my position what spec would you have???

It depends on the budget & planned usage.

I wouldn't mind one of the bamboo bikes from Calfe with Compag kit, but there is no way I could afford it

I would have a long look at the carbon Merlin frame I saw being built up with Campag components a few weeks ago. I've never come so close to ejeculating in my shorts at the sight of a bike.

Personally I would get a budget.

Then I would choose the most expensive frame & wheels and the cheapest everything else that would fit in that budget.

Simples.

So you would have trispoke carbon wheels on a carbon frame with sora?

Lynskey Ti frame and Sram Red gruppo.

I was having a look at Planet X Ti bike last night (frame by Lynskey) - very nice. Apart from being Shimano ;)

Me.....if a new bike, would be one of three....

Wilier Cento Uno with Super Record - beauty..huba..hubba
Colnago EPS with Super Record - always wanted a Colnago
OR a Brian Rourke 953 custom with Super Record - will outlast both, and be more 'ding' resistant..... harks back to my custom Herety build....

Wheels on the lot would be Fulcrum Zero's or Shamal Ultra's - more practical than Lightweight's

I'm kinda tempted by that one myself - I'd buy frame only and put my current SRAM gruppo on it and build up my current bike with bits of shimano stuff that I have lying about.
Mind you, it may be better value to get the whole bike from P-X and just swap the components.
