..atleast spell the bleedin name right.;) Emails this week:

"You Halifacks account may be closed"
"HM Revenew and Customs Refund!"

Not to mention the numerous "bank" emails where my "account" is being "closed". All marked up as spam as a result.

I had several today with the phrases :

If you choose to ignore our request, you leave us no choise
but to temporaly suspend your account.

We ask that you allow at least 72 hours for the case to be
investigated and we strongly recommend to verefy (sic) your
account in that time.

I enjoyed the (sic) addition to the misspelled word.

I suspect that the Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation can stretch to a spell-checker...

I was mailed to be told to change my Lloyds bank passwords this week...
All well and good seeing as I don't bank with Lloyds.

I love the ones I get purporting to be from the Halifax, where I don't bank, addressed to the list-owner[at]yahoogroups.com. Especially when the list has been defunct for about 7 years now.

I had two, the same, saying:
'You have won £98,372.36 (ninty eight thousand, three hundred and seventy two punds and 36 shillings)'!
Send bank and personal deatils to some place in South Africa.

You should do that! Imagine what you could do with the 36 shillings alone!

I never get these. I seem to be missing out on some fun!

Yes, if you are going to do it, at least pretend to be from the bank I use, and once you have done that, you will quickly realise that I either go down to my local branch to sort things out, OR, I use the phone banking service. What you are asking I do is about the last thing on earth that I would do!

I remember (many years ago) receiving a similar email... I replied with a simple request of "Why don't you just F**K OFF". It may not be connected, but I swear the amount of spam increased massively after that!
I am terribly grateful for spam filters now...

it will be connected, you just verified to a spammer the address is a live address . this will be sold onto other spammers etc.

Best thing to do is just ignore the emails- went through a phase of getting them. Used preview on email to check for read receipts (not likely - but better safe than sorry) - then just trashed them. 12 months later I get none!

Also - setup a default box for all incorrect addresses (assuming you own your own domain) - then review and trash once a month!!

What gets me is that these hackers, phishers, scammers, call them what you will, have already done all the hard work and then they fall at the final hurdle by messing up with spelling mistakes.
