Haven't drank anything alcoholic for about two years.

The last time I got fecked up I remember doing a push-up competition with a friend (I was very drunk, he was not). Thought I won...Turns out I did 2 push-ups then passed out, he did something like 15. I was disappointed in my drunk self's inability to exercise.

It's not my favourite but having a wife who is a fellow at an Oxford college necessitates I make some sacrifices.
Your wife's a fella?

It's a bit more complicated than that...
You can't beat a really good Manzanilla, with olives or dried meats... or a nice Pedro Ximenez, with a good strong cheese (e.g. a nicely aged Manchego or a Stilton). A nice 12 year old Oloroso goes well with goats and ewes cheeses.
Although PX is notably undry.

Sir, I must tell you how much I am enjoying “Dry January”. Dry gin, dry martinis, dry white wine, dry red wines. It’s marvellous — so good I shall extend this theme throughout February, March and beyond.

True. I was just extolling the virtues of sherry... dry or otherwise.
Am I about to out-pedant User? I think I am.

Pedro Ximenez isn't necessarily sherry. It's at varietal description. Sherry is a regional description.

Very likely to be better than sherry and manchego.
