Henry Marsh of "Do No Harm" fame is also a regular cyclist. He is very keen on activity as a means to maintain brain function. His fave story is the lifecycle of the seasquirt. It has a brain in its initial stages, but once it attaches to a rock it never moves again and reabsorbs its brain as it is of no further use...

It is a brilliant book, by the way: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/21086818-do-no-harm

My doc is a road cyclist too. I lurve him. Also it means there is a proper Sheffield-stand bike rack outside the surgery with a shelter over it. Yay!
My doc thinks that I'm mental and told me so. Just a few seconds before she suggested taking up some exercise.

It's reassuring being treated by a doctor that cycles too. I always feel that they at least have a better idea of the frustrations an injury or illness causes us.

Lucky around here as there are at least two doctors in my practice that cycle and run, so I usually ask to see one of them if it is exercise related.
