Help! I have got her a double-ended L'Oreal lipstick she saw on TV (£9.00) and a selection of creams and lotions from Culpepper but she's in the habit of giving several things for Christmas and I know my miserable gifts will not prevent a repeat of the last few years where I was accused of not "getting into the spirit", which is wife-speak for not making enough effort.

Trouble is, I'm abso-fecking-lutely STUCK for ideas. She doesn't cycle much but already has a nice bike and all the clothing, she's an Archers and a Strictly fan and has an iPod, apart from that she doesn't really seem to need much. She enjoys reading good novels like The Kite Runner, but definitley not airport paperbacks.

Any suggestions? The idea of scouring the shops for yet another scarf fills me with deep despair. Last year I asked for help in M&S and the assistant started showing me spangly cruise wear stuff, which even with my stunted clothes awareness I knew would not be appreciated. She likes expensive knitwear and boots. Help me, please!

What's your budget?
Can you not buy her a voucher for a pampering day for herself away from home maybe? This isn't cheap though - don't skimp on the price mind you as they can then turn out to be crappy.

Merino.

It's my gift of choice this year, both my Mum and Sister are getting it. In the form of base layers, of course. Not just a ready-to-knit ball of the stuff.

Jewellery, e.g. earings or necklace is also one of my old favourite presents of lack of better inspiration.

Book a full body massage for her - aromatherapy -perhaps - I don't know what your choices are up in Lancs though!

*Wail* She doesn't wear jewellery! *holds head and groans*

She's got 2 pairs of Uggs and an iPod dock!

She hates massages!

You could scour the wardrobe for jumpers of hers and pick one out she's worn recently - look for one similar - £50 is an ok budget.

*Loud wailing and gnashing of teeth* She's got Archers books and she hates cooking!

I wouldn't dare buy a handbag she hadn't pre-approved, let alone a jumper...
