Yes it is. It's not nice especially when the weather's fine and i'm thinking i could be out there working. Not just the money but keeping my round going I hope my customers don't act like some of those who've approached me in the past! "Can you do my windows for me?,i haven't seen my window cleaner for ages" they'd say. I'd point out that he might be ill or on holiday but this doesn't enter their minds. You're soon forgotten these days!

Well let's keep our fingers crossed that you're not out of the game for too long mate.

Could you not cover a wider area? Take on a few window cleaners, and act like a kind of agent? Take a split of lots, and do it from an office (your house) rather than out in the cold, up a ladder?

That'd mean becoming a "businessman" and i'm not into that. No, i wouldn't like the responsibility. Besides there are quite a few who do that and it's very competitive. They tend to bid for industrial/store contracts and do it for as little as possible. Whereas those one man bands can ask a decent rate to do ordinary houses because there aren't many of us around to compete with each other. I think there's only around 20 odd window cleaners in the whole of Blackburn(130,000 population), so we'll never be short of customers. That's why those cleaners who nick other cleaners customers piss me off. There's no need for it, just build you own round up. All it takes is a bit of leafleting and some elbow grease.

The reason window cleaning is so diverse is the working at heights directive you could not insure an employee for what window cleaners do.

Théy arèn't going to operate. Théy say it's the ball thàt goes in the soçket. They could pin it but it might not hold. They're sending me home next week with crutches and orders to not to cycle for 2 months.(sad face)

I don't know if i'll be going back to window cleaning again. I used to think it was "easy money", picking up say 75 quid for 5 or 6 hours work, but that 75 quid takes a lot longer to earn these days. Those safe, ground level, 10 quid an hour boring clock watching jobs seem to be more appealing. No pressure, holiday pay, sick pay, health and safety rights etc etc. The question is is it safe for a one eyed, restricted right shoulder movement and now dodgy hipped window cleaner to be climbing ladders and taking risks anymore?

Many years ago I did a bit of window cleaning (Saturdays only) to build a round up before packing my job in. I think it was early November. I really enjoyed it.........then I got the first cold spell..........I suddenly found that my desk job was not so bad after all.

Some years ago we were woken up at 0500 by 3 guys robbing from our garden shed. I looked out of the top window and who should I see but our window cleaner.
The police later told me he was 1) weighing property/items up 2) making a list 3) showing the list at the pub & then stealing to order. They said the stuff would be sold on within an hour.
As I say.........just a business idea. I don't condone it but want 25% of the profit
