I needed glasses when I was about 28, when I realised I was quite short-sighted. It took a while to get used to them: my brain resolved the newly in focus middle distance as being closer than it was, so everywhere looked as if it was uphill!

I had to wear glasses to see clearly from a young age (short sighted) but could always cope without them in general life and my close up vision was fantastic, from about 30 onwards my distance vision improved a fair bit but as I got a bit older my close up vision started to go to the point where now (mid 50s) I need 2 pairs to see clearly (reading glasses and distance ones)
I tip for those who buy the cheap reading glasses though (and lose them) go to an opticians and get the right prescription for your eyes, it is amazing how paying £100+ for a pair increases your respect for them to the point where you'll always know where they are when you want them and how much more care you take of them.

It is a good idea to get your eyes tested by an optician. it is a bad idea to be lead by an assistant to the most expensive frames on display . Also make sure you get the lens value from the optician so that you can buy a cheap pair as back up from the pharmacy.

I've needed glasses for over 25 years for distance, short sighted. Reading hasn't been a problem so I have to take them off for close up work. As a teacher I often leave them around the room on desks then have to go searching for them.
Reading is getting more dodgy so may have to try bi or varifocals soon.

When I got my glasses, the bloke pointed to the cheap frames and the really expensive ones, and then said that most people get something in the middle. I ended up getting mine from the kids' section.

My eyesight is getting better the older I get. I still need very strong lens (12.0), but not a strong as they once were.
