I left Lagos yesterday with an airline called Asky who are based in Lomé, pretty good, on time and a newish 737. They are 20% owned by Ethiopian Airlines, who I rate as one of the best airlines in Africa; Ethiopians are clever, cultured people - they do the maintenance for Asky.
Here's the same scene this evening, taken with a cellphone hence the poor quality. I've been fascinated for years by the film Apocalypse Now, which is based on the Joseph Conrad novel Heart of Darkness, about the Congo, so it's a big thrill to be actually right beside the Congo river. I think tomorrow instead of flying home I will go up river and set up my own trading outpost and employ "unsavouy methods" while living a despotic lifestyle. Maybe one of my colleagues will be sent upriver to terminate me. The Horror! The Horror!

I'm just as "bad" Rich - I read that the 'scene' photo had been taken with a cellophane! Go for it, Globalti - write about your adventures with the natives of Congolia, and thrill us with derring-do upon the water. "Up shoot Creek Without a Pedal" perhaps?
