My first mountain bike in August 1987; I walked past a bike shop in Harrogate and saw this yellow and white Raleigh Maverick with red graphics in the window. I fell in love with it and bought it then and there on my Barclaycard. That was the start of a 21 year infatuation with mountain biking.

This, withouit the bottle cage and the green pump:

Not bike related I bought a Diamond wedding ring on impulse . I was walking past to call in a Italian restaurant .
The jewellers was next door.. I sat down to eat a meal and had a brain wave to make a purchase .

We stopped in Lincoln for a cup of coffee on our way to Sunderland from Twickenham and 3 hours later bought a house, that evening we carried on with our journey. Sometimes I wish we had been going north up the other side of the country though.

Once booked a holiday an hour after getting a tax rebate only to be told later in the day by my accountant not to spend it as we had a big lump to pay, still had the holiday though.

I'm so cautious, I can't buy on impulse. I analyse the options, consider the pros and cons, and contemplate for a while before settling on the right thing to buy.

Makes the weekly grocery shop a nightmare

I was sorely tempted by a Campagnolo bike for $1400. Italian carbon Sarto Asola, specially made for Campy to demonstrate their Chorus gruppo. I seriously considered it.

Just bought a new Ridgeback Voyage from the LBS. It's a 2015 model, in blue.
I only went in for a cuppa!

Anybody else done similar?
That is spooky! I was in Evans in Glasgow last night, after having consumed a fair amount of beer and whisky over the course of the afternoon with a couple of old buddies. I have been contemplating a tourer for a while now, with the Ridgeback Voyage on the list of possibles. In Evans, there it was! A 57cm frame in metallic blue, 2015 model with a generous discount on RRP... The salesman missed a trick as he was busy selling a pair of shoes to someone else. In my slightly inebriated state I could well have been tempted to flash the flexible friend and worry about it next month.
Hope you enjoy the bike DT; let us know what it rides like as that 57cm frame is probably still hanging up in Evans, just waiting for me to be convinced..... :okay:

Spooky indeed....
Mine is a 57 cm frame as well, but I doubt whether Evans will sell you one for £500.;)
