The problem is with the 0.1% abhorrent peanuts, and the complete lack of will in society to do anything serious about them.

The 0.1% seem to have editorial control of the DM, so when anyone tries the DM has a headline "War declared on motorists". Those trying to deal with the issues then run scared.

Vanishingly few will go out of their way to hurt you, but quite a lot won't make a big effort not to if you get in their way.

I think most will try to avoid hitting you, if they've seen you. In some cases it's only because it takes longer to scrape you off the bumper than to avoid you, and in others because you or the bike might scratch their paintwork.

Yesterday I was driving into Lidl to get some of their batteries and have lunch with the GF. I stopped at this junction. Round the bend to the right are a set of traffic lights and they must have just changed, as there was a stream of cars coming from that direction, so I had to wait. A Discovery was 3rd in the stream of traffic and Just before the pub to the right started to pull out to over take. At first I thought he must be wanting to turn right into the road opposite where I was waiting. No!! He was overtaking the stream of cars. He didn't get past them before going round the corner to the left still on the wrong side of the road. My God! He must have been held up at the lights for a few seconds longer than he wanted to. Either that or he was just and ignorant prat.

I dunno actually, I think the whole 'war on motorists' tends to largely be about tax, and secondarily about driving offences such as going fast on the motorway and parking etc.

These aren't the biggest problem for us. Bad, reckless and agressive driving by often uninsured and unlicensed drivers are as much the bane of the regular motorist as they are the cyclist. I would have thought some action to deal with these types of drivers would likely garner public support, and THEN we can go after the 'acceptable' bad habits like speeding and mobile use.
