Just thought I'd share my experience of Decathlon in Edinburgh - I have no connection other than being a customer.
I went for a quick look after work one day not expecting too much of yet another sports "superstore", but was pleasantly surprised by the range and prices. They mainly stock their own brand bikes (Btwin) which I think are French-made? They have 2 models of road bikes which is what I was looking at - Triban 3 at £300 and Triban 5 at £500. A quick surf at home returned some promising reviews. Decathlon have an expert for each area and the bike expert seemed to know his stuff, actually pointing out the cheaper model that I hadn't noticed when I was initially looking at the £500 model. They have a test area when you can have a ride, best to go on a weeknight as it is much quieter.
When I settled on the Triban 3 they set up the bike and add free lights and reflectors, also removed the pedals for me so I could fit my own - couldn't do enough to be honest, and that was a busy Saturday afternoon. Also first service is free if done within 6 months.
Best thing is you sign up for a free Decathlon card (which acts as your warranty), I was a bit dubious about but a few days later they emailed me a voucher to the tune of £24 to spend in next 3 months - so that paid for a new pair of pedals!
I'm always a bit wary of these places and perhaps it is "new store" syndrome (i.e. try really hard for 3 months then give up) but in 3 visits I have nothing but praise for them - so far.
There are pics of Monkspeed's Triban 3 on the Photo Gallery and the feedback on Decathlon seems to vary store-to-store, but well done Decathlon Edinburgh - one happy customer!
