It's the relative blandness that gives McD's their universality; the old, the young, people of many different backgrounds can find something palatable. Anything too polarising would not have mass appeal (though god only knows why they get away with Gherkins). It's the same with pretty much any mass market product -designer blandness.
There are regional variations and promo products too.

Thats the reason why I go.

I mourned when they got rid of root beer too
Have to say I never saw the appeal of Root beer, but Gherkins are yummy IMO, but many don't like 'em.

It's not a real burger without Gherkins.
Let's face facts, it's not a real burger.

Although I confess, I did have one for lunch yesterday, probably as a result of this thread.

The staff thing: I guess it has to vary by franchise/outlet (are they still franchised?) I got a smile in Oxford St yesterday, but I've entirely given up using the Bethnal Green branch just because they all look so eternally miserable in there.

The single irritiaiton I have is that they seem to have started (or I have only just become aware) of adding salt to the burger post cooking. Although their adverts are might be correct in that the burger itself has not much added, the adding post cooking is a bit off and varies wildly between outlets.

In what respect?

I see where you're going...

Let's leave the bun aside (please, they're awful).
The McD's burger is supposedly pure beef (I've no reason to doubt them) so why do my home made ones taste so much better? Is it the quality of the beef?

Gherkins are one of the essential food groups IMO - I make my own, it's actually really easy. Especially if you have a costco card - they do lovely punnets of tiny Kirby cucumbers for a couple of quid, then all you need is a big jar, vinegar and some spices.

I hasten to add not in the UK - sorry pressed send without checking that.

I did however used to be a logistics controller for the factory that makes about 85% of the country's sausage rolls and well, I avoid where possible.

I like their coffee. Plus, if we're ever out and everywhere else is too busy, a McChicken sandwich & fries tastes great when you are starving!

Always makes me smile when people come over all snooty about Maccy Dee's.

Finding a fan is harder than trying to find someone who actually reads the SUN, despite it having the largest readership in the UK.

Apparently nobody likes the SUN or McDonald's (along with Corrie, EastEnders, twitbook, fake tan, big brother...) So I wonder, just who are all the people are in the queues at McDonald's then?
