Marmite on toast marks the return of my savoury appetite after two and a half days of blandness. It's the best it's ever tasted.

I wasn't as impressed with XO as I thought I might be. Wasn't too strong or anything, I just prefered the taste of regular Marmite, which as anyone with the correct tastebuds will know is wonderful stuff.

I keep thinking about buying some of the XO stuff, but reading this has made me think it is just a bit of marketing.

I do remember my sister once emailed them to ask why it (marmite) had changed colour and was now brown and not black!

Did anyone try the Marston's pedigree marmite? I missed that one!

No, but I had a jar of their limited edition Champagne Marmite a few years ago, but TBH it tasted the same a bog standard Marmite, ie horrible!!

I can only eat marmite on twiglets.

It's never been the same since. The Tesco and Morrisons versions are much closer to the original taste and texture.

Whatever you do, don't be tempted by Vegemite. The Ockers are welcome to it - it's like the scrapings from an Abyssinian crab-catcher's bait bucket.
