I had Guinness Marmite when it was out a few years back.... again, didn't notice any difference in taste (I love it) but was disappointed to note it didn't have a white head on it.

In the interests of science I've just undertaken a 'Pepsi Challenge' stylee taste test with a piece of toast, one half spread with original Marmite (RHS) and one half with XO (LHS). Now you'll note XO half isn't spread quite as thickly as the reg, this is due to it being all I could scrape out of the jar.

So, bought loaf I'm afraid, no home-made available. Butter, natch. Marmite and XO.

Initial test results - Pretty tasty all round but the normal was nicer, just swilling it down proper with a cup of tea now.

Conclusion - real Marmite num nums, XO not quite so nummy-nooshka.

That's proper science that is, right there. :becool:

I can take it or leave it tbh, sometimes i fancy a bit of marmite on toast, other times i'm not all that fussed.

I second that slowmotion ... for the discerning only!

Indeed.

My dad always used to get a pot at Christmas. One of the proper ones made of china with a different picture each year. If I was lucky I was allowed some.

I have managed to convince Mrs T that I need to continue the tradition. Unfortunately we only get the plastic tubs.

Did anyone try the Marston's pedigree marmite? I missed that one!

I've not seen that in my local but it's not suprising when you know how close the two places are

. (A) is the Brewery and (B) is the Marmite factory.

Hmm, Bovril. So much nicer than Marmite, not that there is anything wrong with Marmite, it's just not Bovril.

In fact two of my favourite sandwiches involve Bovril. The Bovril, mature Cheddar and corned beef sandwich, and the Bovril, corned beef and runny fried egg sandwich.

I'm hungry now

What a fabulous thread!
I've been fighting hunger pangs all afternoon, reading all this talk of actually eating the vile Brown slop has done the job

Cheese on toast: lightly slaver Marmite over the cheese before toasting.

Out comes a glorious marbled effect snack. With different tangs of Marmite hitting the tastebuds.

nom nom nom.

My eye is now twitching.

You nearly had me, I was just starting to chew on the corner of my desk...
But, flicking back to images of that hideous bin slime in a jar has done the trick
