I'm not slow in criticising the police when they're lazy but I got a good result yesterday.

On the way to work a white van just missed me, inches. Not that unusual in itself but this was the second time the same van had done it so I memorised the number and when I got to work I called the cops. Not much they can do but I hoped they'd maybe call the guy and tell him off.

They took it seriously and two cops came out to my work to take a statement! One said that even when he's out on a police bike he gets the same thing and was very aware of the dangers posed to cyclists by idiot drivers.

They left with the promise that they'd pay the driver a visit and try to scare some sense into him. Fantastic! Only a drop in the ocean I know but it's great to see the police taking cyclists seriously. I recon the more noise we make, the more the profile of cycling is raised, the more will be done for us.

Yes all very well and good you making a statement but will they actually do anything re the driver of the vehicle and more importantly report back what if anything they will do to you? IME the plods are next to useless.

Unfortunately with the lack of independent witnesses it makes any meaningful action unlikely. But i do think that they have shown a good practical response, hopefuy it will do the trick.

Happy cyclist.
efficient police
more careful driver.

my day is complete.

There's not much they can do other than have a word and warn him. The point is that they're going to do that, I'm sure they will. I gave the details to the woman at the station, if they wanted to do nothing or as little as possible they could've just phoned the driver. Instead they called my back and asked if it was ok for two officers to come to my work and take a statement. I don't think they would've bothered doing that if they weren't going to do anything.

Not heard anything back from them but we have been out most of the day.

I had a little tussle with a car the other week, and the sweetest words i heard were..

"mate I'll put your bike in my car and bring it to your home later."

I cannot praise that policeman enough :laugh:

Coventry police did well last year when I got punched by a car passenger. I got the car number but it wasn't registered to anyone and I didn't expect any thing to happen about it. But they traced it and spoke to the driver, unfortunately he wouldn't name his passenger so it ended there, not the result i wanted but a good effort.

When I got assaulted by a motorist in East Kilbride, the police officers I saw were extremely helpful and sympathetic. Unfortunately my photo of the car wasn't good enough to read the number plate and I don't think they found him.

as I've got older and more respectable the police have got nicer and more pleasant, saldy they destroyed all that good work by nicking and charging me on a blatent target arrest for being 'drunk attemting to enter a sporting arena' when they really couldn;t have been more unpleasant and cuntish barring a couple of sympatheitc ones in the station itself

I generally find the best way to deal with the police is to be very nice to them. Any kind of attitude sends them into 'Sarky Robot' mode and you're stuffed! When my boss's son was in his late teens he had an XR2 and got stopped for a spot check one night. He made the big mistake of giving them lip. That was it, he was a marked man. The cops stopped him on sight and within about six-months he had eleven points on his license!

If he refused to name the passenger then I think he should be prosecuted for the offence instead – probably not the law as it stands, but its something that IMHO should be possible…. Grrr…… unregistered vehicle, refusing to cooperate = get off scott free – what a joke of a society we live in

and that's good is it?

reminds of a bloke they used to harass in Tottenham for not being nice to them, they arrested him 90 something times in a year, charged him plenty and not one single chargw ever resulted in anyting, in the most recent one, they nicked him for 'kissing his teeth' when they asked him for ID, like they did;t know who he was

old fashioned coppering that made almost every person that came into contact with the cops loathe them

that said they seem to have got better in the last decade
