it has to span at least a couple of decades, be sung by a variety of performers including, it is to be hoped, one of a limited number of divas (this is sounding more and more like a gay thread, but I will persist...) - Shirley Bassey, Emmylou Harris, Bonnie Raitt, Barbra Streisand, the late Luther Vandross, Dolly Parton, Dusty Springfield and so on - oftentimes on TV variety shows where lipsynching is obligatory.

Jazz standards are different - but see Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Peggy Lee, Julie London. Jazz standards are tunes that are improvised on endlessly. For decades*. With people who have played with Parker/Monk/Miles.

*at different times over decades, not non-stop for decades. Although you'd be forgiven for wondering
