+1, this is a very good point. I think you are onto something there, It would be wonderful to keep hold of a little bit of "past" especially out in the regions.

I don't think we do stations well. Santa Maria Novella in Florence out Euston's Euston

, Penn Central and Grand Central in New York make St. Pancras look tame

I like the Scottish rural stations, where the waiting rooms are usually run as independent tearooms. At Crianlarich on the West Highland Line you can email or text your sandwich order in. My favourite is Corrour Halt, which is ten miles from the nearest road.

We've got the newest station in the country. Fishguard & Goodwick re-opened two weeks ago after being shut for 48 years. During restoration they noticed that the track had been moved a metre away from the platform at some point in the past and had to spend a weekend moving it back again.

Is that the Finland station as in the pet shop boys lyric from west end girls? It's lovely.

There's a station in Porto that's full of beautiful tiles, well worth a visit. Also Lille station was pretty cool when they wrapped it in pink plastic.

Avignon's one of my favourites. Close up it's just bits of wood, but, taken as a whole...

Wow!

I wish I'd dropped in for a look when I passed through on my Channel to Med ride. I was underwhelmed by the pont d'Avignon. The station would have more than compensated for the lack of awe and wonder at the pont.
