The Polymoog was released in 1975, the first commercial synthesiser able to play more than one note.
(Although I'm sure someone will come along and say someone in a shed had one earlier)

A lot of Keith Emersons early stuff was played on a conventional church organ fed through various effects.
Not to mention the numerous daggers he inserted between the keys to keep them depressed.

I remember seeing footage of ELP on tour.

They had artics, each with their surname in large letters on the roofs of the trailers.

A lot of gear for a band which was essentially keyboard, guitar, and drums.

Emerson played behind what was described as a castle built of keyboards, synths, and goodness knows what else.

The synths he had may have been only able to play one note until 1975, but I reckon he screwed a bit more out of them than that somehow or other.

Years ago I worked with a bloke who was a massive Japan fan, I was, and still am, a massive Can fan. There were a couple of albums released by David Sylvian and Holger Czukay after a collaboration, neither of us thought much of them, he blamed Holger for them being crap, I blamed David Sylvian for it. Just thought I'd share that with you all.
Anyway, as you were.

No, never really got into that, I remember it at the time. I have got a couple of Klaus Schulze things, got Timewind on vinyl and a handful of years ago bought a couple of CDs, En=Trance and Trancefer, but hardly ever play them. Also got Electronic Meditation by Tangerine Dream, which he appears on but he doesn't do synths on that, he plays percussion.

This thread is not complete without mention of Son of My Father by Chicory Tip.

Here is a picture of my copy of that, taken just now for your delectation. Bought by me when I was a spotty young lad.
