70s was the best decade for me (was born in 1963).

Certainly the best music wise with so much variety; Prog, Heavy metal, Glam, Disco, Punk/New-Wave and ushered-in the New-Romantic/Synth era... that's quite some selection to indulge in.

Streets were quieter and kids still played in them, TV wasn't 24hr (and we had 'World of Sport' and Wrestling), no computers or internet, phones plugged into the wall and people cooked real food.

Jobs were so available that workers could afford to wreck the industry that employed them....

PaulB raises and interesting point.... What did happen to white dog poo? You never saw it after the 70s.

Was 16 when punk/new wave took off; formed (crap) band with mates, had rucks at the footie and rock against racism gigs, hitched everywhere. A lot of things were shoot, especially if you were black/gay/etc. but I enjoyed myself.

Was at college 75-78, everything looked after and looking back it was a great life apart from cramming for exams. Sheltered from the real world though, so what it was like on the 'outside' I have no idea; I think there may have been the odd strike or two. Had a room next to the record librarian so every Saturday we used to go spend the budget at the local record shops, get some pints and listen to them all in his room.

Don't know if I 'found' myself, I was certainly found in some interesting places, and very good memories.

Sad I know, but Radio 4 I find now has a soothing effect on stressful days, as that was what was on in our house early 70's. You would know when it was lunchtime or Dad was coming home, or whether it was 2pm on a Sunday, purely by the program. Week in, week out and b.....y cold meat, cabbage and mash on a Monday.

Born in '62, so the 70s was my growing up decade and I loved it! Memories of my Puch Alpine 5 speed "racer" which I bought at the start of the famous summer of '76, then worked for 20p per hour for 3 months solid to pay it off.

Very little health and safety, or moronic rules and regulations. Tartan Special was the first pint I ever bought (illegally) in 1978, price 43p.
Joined the Merchant Navy in 1978 as an Officer Cadet, and saw the world through a drunken haze.

Texan bars, Aztec bars (like a Mars without the toffee), flares, platforms, Ford Cortinas (especially the mk3), Alfasud, women who acted like women, and dodgey music; it all brings back some brilliant memories. The 1978 world cup with Scotlands wonderful failure apart from THAT goal by Archie Gemmill. The days when going anywhere by air was a big adventure and airlines really treated you well.

Just loved the freedom of having some independence, but at the same time being looked after by parents and not having the responsibilities that adulthood all too soon brings upon us.

Yes, we used to think things were pretty bad then! What did we know.. And however did you-know-who get invited to the party?*

*being pedantic, the literal milk-snatch was a spending cut as Secretary of State for Education in the Heath govt, much earlier than the full-blown theft of the family silver in the 80's. A sign of what was to come..
*being pedantic, Maggie voted against the "milk snatch". But of course the Thatcher haters would never let the truth get in the way of a pathetic reason to hate her.
