In the context of football, are 'match' and 'game' the same for you?

Can you not have a game of snooker? And darts? I don't know. Both sound OK to me.

I reckon you're on to something there though. If I spoke of a darts or snooker game, you'd think it was a board game or something

Like you, I am not a fan of the whole xG thing, but I read about the history of it and why it makes sense recently:

While I still think it's daft to bang on about for your average fan, I can see why it's valued by the stats folks at "big" clubs. It does feel very much like an Americanised affectation where sports are statted into oblivion.

And on that I suppose, "soccer" has never really bothered me, because it's just a shortening of "Association Football", but that's a whole different kettle of worms.

I use either match or game. What's more interesting is that being a football fan, or is it a supporter of?🤔 😉 of Accrington Stanley FC why do I say 'we' when Stanley win and 'they' when we/they lose. 😉
