While I still think it's daft to bang on about for your average fan, I can see why it's valued by the stats folks at "big" clubs. It does feel very much like an Americanised affectation where sports are statted into oblivion.
And on that I suppose, "soccer" has never really bothered me, because it's just a shortening of "Association Football", but that's a whole different kettle of worms.
