A friend lives on a road in Belfast where they have a cycle lane with a broken line. See here. The PSNI issued notices to them all to ask them to stop parking in the cycle lane (not sure if this was enforcable). All of the houses have driveways but as usual have too many cars for their drive or are just too lazy to use them. The response of the vast majority of residents to the notice was either ignore or park fully with 4 wheels on the pavement.

I experience Sh***y parking all time in Bristol. Here are a few of my experiences:

1. Double Yellow Dodgers - arsenuggets (got that from another forum) who think they can avoid a fine from parking on double yellow lines by dumping the entire vehicle in the middle of the pavement/cyclepath. GRRRR. I bet they whine about cyclists on pavements too.
2. Corner parking - as above who insist on squeezing their tin can on wheels diagonally onto a corner not paying any attention to the highway code.
3. Pavement parking. It seems it has now become perfectly acceptable to drive/park wholly or partly on the pavement. Anyone notice how normal it is now for some drivers to mount the pavement as a matter of habit?.

There's another arsenugget across the way from me who parks his car on a small grass verge. He's now rutted the grass and left sump oil all over it.

Lady Byegad demanded I take her to an out of town shopping area to look at furniture.

The large carpark was pretty full. However the first three gaps we found were too small for her small Toyota. One had half a BMW in it, another was wedge shaped due to pillock in a 4x4 being unable to park straight and the third had 1/4 of an Audi and 1/3 of a BMW in it. I was furious as her Ladyship wouldn't allow me to key all four of them.

I remember a case in Europe (Germany) in the late 70's

There was a guy who would paint the soles of his shoes white and walk across leaving footprints

When arrested he claimed it was a work of Performance Art highlighting the problem

I believe there was a guy in Germany (?) who actually did walk over the roofs of cars parked on the pavement. I think he got arrested for it.

On a recent visit to Wickes, as I left a car pulled up, parked diagonally across two spaces in between some other cars. I thought it was pretty lazy until the people got out and the reason became evident. Both would have made Jabba the Hut look anorexic. They were so big, I could feel their own gravity field from where I stood. If they had parked properly, neither would have had room to open the doors and get out.

If they had parked properly, neither would have had room to open the doors and get out.

I think many of average build can have difficulty due to the fact that modern cars are wider than of old and many car park admins have not got around to relining their car parks accordingly.
