Anyone giving IndieVelo a try?

I've been dabbling off and on for the last few weeks (I'm usually on Zwift) and It seems pretty good to me. Graphics, connectivity, routes all fine but I wonder if I'm the only real life person on there, just surrounded by bots (with very questionable names!) when I'm riding.

Not yet tried group rides or races, but are 'real' riders invisible whilst I'm on the free start up version? All a bit weird.

Yep I'm on there, use it two or three times a week, enjoying it.

I like the different race formats, but I don't like the fact that so many of the opponents are bots. In the few races I've done, I've either won easily, or been left for dead before miraculously coming back to win or nearly win (almost as if the bots are putting their brakes on, having realised it wasn't close enough...)

The workouts work well. I still prefer the customisability of Zwift's workouts, and their on-screen prompts/messages.

Indoors, I really can't see the point of just riding around for the sake of riding around.

I like some of their training sessions, plus I'm happy to hop on for an hour at Z2 when I don't have the time to go out, not tried the racing but I shall give it a pop

I've only been doing the occasional race on IV - I think most of them have been part of the Monthly Challenge series. Did another one yesterday - just a 3.7km TT on the "Sprinters' Climb". I won - just - in spite of going out way too hard and seeing my power drop off before I really even got to the climb.

One thing that I noticed, though, was that the bot-naming has improved... to the point that I couldn't tell who was real and who were bots!

I'm on there. Was on Zwift but 38.5% price hike prompted a switch.

I'm struggling to get some fitness back ATM (am getting breathing trouble looked into), so I usually just ride around or hang with Mr Obsidian.

Was great to be able to ride while it was torrential outside, even if I was just puffing and blowing along at 1.5w/kg!

I only really used Zwift for the workouts - I gave indieVelo a try yesterday and couldnt really notice much of a difference in terms of the workout itself - worked 100% as I'd expect, controlling the trainer. Looks like it adds the ability to read my PM as well as the turbo's power output as a secondary source - not sure if that makes it more accurate or anything though! And actually the graphics and in game stuff looks nice, much of the UI is the same as Zwift. Gave MyWhoosh a go too last night. Lots of roads and places to go, but somehow I didn't get as nice a feel from it as I did with iV and Zwift. Might give it another go some time. Looking for more chat about iV to see if there's much of a community to it.

Maybe it was the feeling of human rights being oppressed?

I see that IndieVelo has been bought outright by Training Peaks and will become part of the TP package. Not sure how that will impact those that just want IV and not TP. Time will tell. DC Rainmaker also reporting that it will cease to be free March/April next year.

It would never have been sustainable as a free platform forever, I always understood it to be a development site for a new future owner, it's been great to use and I'll continue to do so until the terms change. I'll make up my mind what to do at that point.

I joined a couple of weeks ago and really like it. I didn't renew my Zwift Annual Subscription (moved to monthly) and may not renew that at the end of December.

I have TP Premium via my coach, so TPV should remain free to me I think

I like many of the features on IV (TPV) and can live with the basic graphics. It would be good to see more humans but I imagine that will come as all the TP users move across.

Stopped using Zwift ages ago, but couldn’t really find an app that I like so when I tried indievelo I loved it.

Use the pace bots a lot enjoy those and done some racing , so I signed up for the founders club which was a paid subscription so will be signing up to TrainingPeaks in April.

It’s all I use now so I’ve started to cancel other subscriptions great App 👍

Good to chat with you the other day on TPV :okay:

You'll need to change your signature on here (Zwift name) ^_^
