Just back from a wee tour of the southside/city centre
Main roads have been gritted, are mostly free of icy patches in the Rutherglen, Toryglen, King's Park areas. All clear till Shawfield (went round on my way back), avoid the cycle lane though, still quite icy.
Avoid also Shawfield industrial estate and the Clyde walkway, if you don't have studs.

Rode to Victoria Road via Lakefield bus depot, it was fine if you stay on the main roads. The cycling path from Hampden to Cathcart has not been gritted, still icy.
Riding from Victoria road to town, via the bus/cycle lane was not good, a lot of big holes opened in the tarmac, seemed like Bagdad after a bombing!
Also had the impression that from there all the way to town the area had not been gritted at all.
Great news for us that need to cut through Glasgow Green: most of the paths have been gritted, even a road bike can make it, with care.
Attention though: the entrances/exits of the Green are full of icy slush!
If you ride through the 5 aside bit, take extra care on joining the path and at the junction to join the main road.
Was out for about an hour, saw only 3 cyclists: one was attempting to ride on the shared path towards Dalmarnock, bad idea.
Ride safe! :hello:

Thanks Pat, I'm glad the Green has finally been gritted.

I'm Southside through Shawlands - Pollockshaws/Kilmarnock Rd have had heehaw, zip squat no salt the past two nights through Glasgow City Council and East Ren areas. Any side roads are a mess of black ice and I'm feeling foolish on my skinny tyres it's only the busy main road keeps me at it but worrying things will change. I really hate using other transport.

I've cycled into the centre of Glasgow each of the last four days, covering Paisley Road, Great Western Road etc etc. The Sunday run was a safer alternative to the usual country lanes. The main roads have been fine, but the pavements and side roads are getting icier by the day - watch out for the pedestrians.

All OK out towards renfrew/braehead tonight. Maryhill road is fine. The "colleges" off-road cycle network on the north side of the city that avoids the lights under the M8 onwards is pretty icy at parts

My pedestrian commuter colleague tells me that the pavements are really slippery now due to the rain.

No troubles on my all-main road commute - except for the ever-expanding potholes and sunken manholes on Cathedral St.

And the high concentration of buses and people who want to overtake buses desperately

A very refreshing travel report there Pat5mph, good to hear some fresh place names.
I get so fed up of the BBC Radio Scotland reports, which I feel certain are just tapes that someone selects at random from a big box under the table. We get bored with repeated references to Arkleston, Craighall, M8 slip, Plantation, places we would never have heard about were it not for BBC travel reports.

All clear on the Southside/Brumielaw today, apart from the pavements - another good reason not to cycle on them
BUT: the radio just said -3 tonight, so all the rain will ice up :cold:
