Inguinal Hernia

How's that work then ? Do tell ?

Think that initiative went by the by many years ago - if it ever existed for surgery

Not sure exactly, but whenever I get referred through my GP for treatment I get a code to go on a portal and I can choose where I want to be treated.

- For my umbilical hernia operation I was able to choose a hospital with a years wait or go to a private hospital (on the NHS) and have it done in 6 weeks.
- For my custom insoles for my feet (one leg is longer than the other) I was able to choose a few locations too.

Maybe it’s because our GP is flexible with the shortlist?

It used to be linked to targets - but although the targets are still in place they are routinely breached and no one is really that interested.....bit like a+e waits.

Some areas won't even repair IA on the NHS. (I couldn't see a groin specialist AT ALL on the NHS)

When I had mine done(around 8 years ago) it was quite a wait to see the consultant - but after that the surgery date came through pretty quickly.

Coughing or a sneeze was the worst thing after my operation. I didn't realise how much I used my stomach muscles to do these. So if someone you know has an infection, tell them to stay away from you before and after surgery
As to the bike, my surgeon said I could ride it after a couple of days. What he didn't tell me was being able to ride was a completely different matter. Lifting my leg over the saddle was impossible for a little while after.

Don't MTFU - take the painkillers.

When I came around - the pain wasn't too bad . Got myself dressed - walked up + down - hospital were happy to discharge me. Didn't bother with painkillers as pain wasn't too bad. Big Mistake.

Seating pain next morning - I couldn't feckin move ! It was early evening before the pain killers kicked in. I didn't skip after that.

Cocoadmol caused me major constipation - and without being too graphic - you don't want to be straining to squeeze one out - whilst recovering from IA !

Get a stock a prune juice in - and had great 'the eagle has landed' moment - pure bliss ....short lived ...as the log was so big - the loo wouldn't flush ....so in agony - the hand was down the loo to unblock it ....."lord ....why me" !!!!!

I was told that open v keyhole makes no difference on recovery - as with keyhole they are in there longer poking around - my surgery was open - they were only in there 20 mins .

High success rate - and the most basic surgery there is......but a word of caution take it easy - because if it goes after a repair the odds are poor if they need a 2nd stab at it.

Repair went well and it was open surgery.
Two days in now sore and bruised and taking Ibroprufen and co-codamol.
I've got some prune juice in like you did and last night i felt the need to go and i was very patient and didn't try to strain and thankfully it went ok💩.To be honest i was dreading it because i do suffer with constipation and i'm sure straining gave me the hernia in the first place.

Two probably 3 days in - another couple of days and you will probably be over the worst of it.

Glad the prune juice helped - take it easy and don't rush things - sounds like your being sensible with things so all good.

I made the mistake of going on a long train journey with some very good friends about a fortnight after operation #3: I laughed so hard I had to go to the loo and make sure I hadn't damaged the repair.
