Injured knee jogging, should I stay off the bikes?

Lost it, got it again.
I've somehow managed to get a pain in my right knee after running/jogging. I've not been running a lot, maybe twice a week over the colder months, but recently I've ended up with a pain in my right knee just to the right of the knee cap - kind of like a bruise but there is no physical bruising.

Anyway, its a bit sore - not overtly, but enough to make me annoyed at walking down stairs (on flat or up its fine).

So, should I stay off the bike(s) until this is better, or just get out and ride in hope of getting rid of the problem?

That's impossible to answer without getting a proper diagnosis of the root cause of your problem.

I am off the bike with (what I thought was) a knee injury at the moment, and the physio is focusing his attentions on my spine...

Have a look at this. It's possibly yer iliotibial band twanging over yer lateral epicondyle.

I had it and it went away after I stopped the running. Whatever it is, I don't recommend you ride through it. Ibuprofen and ITB stretches would be my first port of call. If that doesn't work, then time for the GP - who'll probably prescribe co-codamol, packs of frozen peas, and er, ITB stretches. Then, when that doesn't work, go to a physio/osteo/chiro...

I have a macerated left knee its hanging by a thread my surgeon explained not worth operating on he said (years of football you see) Now then when this plays up with similar symptoms to yours I still ride the bike but tend to push a lesser gear so as to not exert any pressure. I queried this with my surgeon and he told me that on the contrary to resting I should carry on biking

However I had a proper diagnosis and x-ray and as vamp says its best to get it checked out to see if any damage would be caused by cycling (I doubt very much) but if you’ve got something floating about this could lodge and cause your knee to lock (not good when pedalling)
