Bit bored now!

Just over two weeks since I got knocked off. My main injuries were a cracked rib and strained knee ligaments.

The knee is still preventing me from riding at the moment (and also from walking very far if I'm honest). Anyone got any ideas how long it will take for this to settle down so I can start riding?

Bit of a disaster for this to have happened during the school hols as me and son would have been out and about all over the place on our bikes. At the minute we're just sat looking at each other wondering what to do!

6 weeks is the magic number- for ribs.
Not sure about the knee.

Make sure you don't do too much at first, as you can do more damage (been there) would it be worth seeking out some spots injury people?

Hope you mend soon.

Recovery times are very variable. I've had soft tissue injures which seem serious to resolve them selves in a week or two then other issues linger around for ages. The key thing is to make sure you don't try things & push your self too early.

Here's an image which appears if you google "mother and son sat looking at each other wondering what to do!"

These. A useful guideline is that, when you feel about ready to give it a go ... wait another 3 days or a week !

This is of more importance the older one gets  ... err  ... or so I am told ...

Ribs take a good 6 weeks. Knees can be tricky. I've had a knee problem sort in a week before now. Then again I've been out of action with a different knee problem for 3 months. It all depends on the individual problem. What has the doc said?
Any news from the police about the driver who caused all this mayhem?

Doctor said expect to take six weeks, but as a health professional myself I know that six weeks is a magic number used to sooth anxious patients when you don't really know how long things will take to get better!!

The latest from the police is that the car has been found abandoned, but the driver is still at large. They have mysteriously told me that the driver is now also wanted in connection with other matters.
Practically, this means I'm quite anxious about going out as a man who deliberately tried to kill me is wondering the streets.

As far as I know Sara-H, ligaments can take a long time to completely heal but that depends on your age and also the severity of the ligament damage. When I broke my collarbone 2 years ago I also damaged some ligaments in my shoulder area and they are still not fully recovered !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A worrying thought indeed. Let's hope that the police are actively looking for this bloke.

I badly sprained my ankle when running down a poorly-lit lane. My foot slipped on the edge of a big pothole and twisted sideways through what felt like 90 degrees. I could walk on it again within a month, but it ached for over a year, and I still get twinges in it now, 25 years later!

The knee feels quite sore at the minute. I know it wouldn't be a good idea to ride yet.

Feeling a bit impatient really.

Mrs R is still off her bike five months after her accident and is unlikely to ride for another three or four months. Mind you she broke both arms and has had two operations with a further one due next week.

I know it's frustrating - but what worked for her was starting swimming and taking up long distance walking. Is there another sport you could do?
Its more the frustration of not being able to get about thats bothering me. I do most of my local journeys by bike usually. During the school holidays me and my son potter about all over the place on our bikes.
I've been getting about on the bus, but alot of the places we often go to locally aren't on our bus route and are a bit too far to walk. So its all a bit frustrating really.
