A clip less pedal with no float will hold your cleat in a fixed position so your foot - ankle and knee will not move sideways . Most pedals have an adjustable float that allows for some sideways movement some allow adjustment that will allow movement to one side but not the other. The most common problem with cyclists knee is due to over use and most believe that having a cleat fixed rather than floating exacerbates this.
