Sort of garden related. Can someone confirm what these fruits are?

They are growing on a tree next to the B road on my walk, part of the hedge ie definitely not in any garden.
Google suggests they could be cultivated plums but I would risk trying them.

Looks like a Golden Gage plum. Definitely try one for taste, and take a suitable container to gather as many as you can in case it's as delicious as it looks!

Or Mirabelle plums maybe, we have a very similar tree on the allotments, they make nice jam

Distinct possibility, also known as cherry plums, which is what someone called them last year around this time when we found a heavily laden tree near the W end of the Bennerley viaduct. Really ought to go back there with a bag to collect a load, as they were delectable.

Cherry or mirabelle plums. Term is pretty well much interchangeable. I have some in my garden, plus there's several along the edges of the community orchard.

That's probably the last of them, as they're usually one of the first plum species to ripen.

I wouldn't say they're my favourites. The jam they make can be quite insipid, as they lack the acidity of something like a Victoria or Czar.
