I had that exact combination up until a few months ago, found that the slimes did help as at least when I did get a puncture (which was quite often) I could keep on riding without having to stop and fix it, maybe just top up with some air. I'm now running slimes with Gatorskins and needless to say I've not had a visit from the puncture fairy since .... there, I've probably just jinxed myself!

I've just this minute fitted a slime tube to the front wheel..The slime tube and the standard one felt pretty much the same weight for weight wise ( 700c x 23). The slime tube probably felt slightly heavier but I personally don't think it will make any difference to my overall cycling performance ( what performance I have that is :-)).
One thing that was noticeable though was how out of balance the wheel was once fitted. I lifted the front wheel off the ground once fitted and spinned it by hand. I could feel the bike trying to move up and down.. After a few moments it seemed to level out and disappear..This is no doubt due to the slime spreading itself evenly throughout the tube. As for the reports that the valve gets bunged up with the slime goo I will make sure it sitting at around 4 or 8 o'clock on the rim when not in use so it can drain away back into the bottom of the tube. It's now just a question of getting the miles in now to see how well they work..
Anyway Happy New Year all and all the very best for 2017. :-)

I lot depends on style and location of riding. Mine is mostly commuting on traffic free paths, so I need reliability.

I used to fit Marathon plus and slime filled tubes, but found that the valves would clog when adjusting the pressure rendering an otherwise perfectly good tube useless. A job for this weekend is to swap the tubes in the missus' bike as I can not get any air in currently

I now use only Schwalbe tubes although other decent brands should be Ok. I also fit cloth rim tape to protect against spokes etc on the inside as I've found the plastic can wander and split

I've also switched away from M+ to normal marathons as I find the puncture resistance is as good for me.

Make sure you check the valves daily if reliant on bike for commuting/only bike

I think you've nailed it .. see how they work, if OK keep, if not move one .. much like most cycling!
Wishing all a puncture free Happy New Year!
