Anybody know what the insect is in the top picture (sorry for the quality!).

It appears to have multiple legs, looking online it seems to match up as a Ghost Moth?.

Cheers all!

Where did you find that?

We heard something gnawing away inside our sofa and to cut sort a very long story it turned out to be a larva of an Asian Longhorn beetle, which was busy munching away the woodwork. It had come from China. Apparently many trees in SE England are being eaten away and will have to come down in a few years before they fall.

Pulled my laptop out from under the sofa and it was on the keyboard when I opened the lid..

Just had a search for carpet moth and it comes up with a very similar picture, lovely!.

Will be pulling the living room to bits then..

Might just rip the carpet up and fit a liminate floor, shame really as we prefer carpet in the living room.

you need a couple of those smoke bomb morhkillers. Set em off, leave the room and shut the door tight. Then go out for the day / overnight. Come back next day - open the windows and come back in an hour.

Evil sods ate my entire front room. No one really went in there so no one noticed until it was too late! We moved house!

Going to try the traps and spray.

I can't set a fume bomb off because we have a cockatiel and they are very sensitive to air contamination.

I've read the meal moths can be brought into the house via bird food, but they fly around and I haven't noticed any (the carpet moths don't fly apparently?).

Wife pulls the sofas out and hoovers quite regularly, and we haven't noticed any damaged carpet but I'll have to have a proper look, maybe take the bottom off the sofas as well to check in there.

Never noticed anything in the kitchen either which seems to rule out meal moths.

Not planning on moving house just yet, hope it doesn't come to that..

The joys!.

We had a moth infestation over the summer.
We bought one of those blue lights you see in commercial kitchens
I put it on a time clock so that it went on for a few hours around dawn and dusk
We have not seen a single moth for months

I was going to suggest a flamethrower, but decided it might be a bit too extreme.

So, how about a mini flamethrower with a small trained operator to get into those hard to reach bits
