If I thought the "fun" would last a year then the cost would be cheap, but I can see the fun lasting a week or two. I think her "must-have" MenKind helicopter held her interest for, ooh, perhaps half an hour.

Do you say 'Watch the birdie....say cheese!'?

Little known photography fact....

In China the photographer asks you to "say aubergine"

"aubergine" in Chinese is "qieza" which is pronounced "chee-aza"

It's a bit more complicated than that...
When I left polytechnic I worked in a photographic shop for a while in the days before digital.

One day a group of women were in, one of them looking for a camera, and someone pointed to a Polaroid.

Another one of the group came out with, 'but you only get one of those for naughty photos,' instantly realised what she'd said and went bright red.
If you're lucky @rvw will tell you her father's favourite naughty camera story...

My daughter has had a Fujifilm instant camera for about a year, she really likes it and has asked for a retro looking case for it this Crimbo.
The fact that the prints look like the '70's Polaroids is part of the retro appeal. She also has a very good digital camera that looks like a '50's / '60's film camera.
I think that if you hunt around online the film can be had at a reasonable price.

Slightly OT...

If she is into "retro" and has a creative streak then have a look for a cheap Holga lens set

They are available for most cameras with interchangeable lenses and a set allows retro pictures with various tints, blurring, softening and vignetting

She can have whichever she wants but I think (with a little coercion) that she is leaning towards a camera + a pic printer. I hope so anyway, this way she gets a better camera and can still print off whatever she likes, in a decent size too. She really wants the pair of chinchillas she's seen on Gumtree in Manchester............

Go for the Chinchillas, breed them, become a furrier and make a coat to cover your costs.........

This is basically a home/ desktop printer, and unless she has a handbag the size of my wife's not truly portable, especially as it requires a mains connection

There are smaller printers (with smaller photos) that would suit the bill better if she wishes to carry it

It won't be to carry around. ^_^ I think she has read and understood the limitations of the instapix cameras and wants better pics.,

My mother has drawers of old photos, and I have a rack of External hard drives and DVDs

it is a sign of the times

There was an article recently lamenting the practice of people like me!

Museums and local historians thrive on old photos and images. Quite often dropped in from house clearances or bequests

In my case if anyone can be bothered and can get past the password protection then they could be useful, but all too many simply get sent to a tip, erased to reuse the disc, or become corrupt losing the data and all important photographic record

Maybe I should buy a printer, spend the inheritance and annoy my wife by cluttering the house with all 150,000 images in albums

Post them on the internet and they can get ignored by museums all over the world.
