As an aside - has anyone attempted to fit SKS mudguards to a Boardman CX? I assume it's the same difficulties as to a Hybrid Pro (i.e. you have to bend around the disk caliper).

I'm pretty sure SKS do some special brackets for disc bikes?

You are not going to believe this!!

The 2 upstanding citizens that stole my bike from the company compound last week made another attempt for more bikes this week.

I mean seriously, how galactically stupid do you have to be to revisit the scene of the crime after so short a time, especially on the same day and in the same time frame (i.e. Monday morning).

They've been caught (well done police!) - waiting to see if my bike is still around or whether it's been sold to people unknown.

Thanks - the interesting thing now is what happens. The insurance company settled and have dispatched vouchers from Halfords for me to purchase a new bike. If my old one has been found and is still in decent nick then I'm happy to ride that.

I believe that if I'd purchased the new bike then that would belong to me and the old recovered one to the insurance company. As the vouchers haven't arrived yet I'm not sure where I stand. Do I keep my old bike and just return the vouchers to the insurance company so they can get a refund? That would seem to be the common sense way of doing things - but red tape rarely follows common sense in my experience!

You stand where things are up to, that is you get and spend the vouchers until (and if) the insurance company contacts you.

I would say don't wait for something to happen.

OK - quick update on this.
The security on our, and another, building apprehended 2 youths carrying industrial bolt croppers and a hacksaw around the perimeter fence of our building - heading in the direction of the bike sheds (as hardly any of you will know the area around DB Schenker Doncaster I'll just clarify that it's wasteland and not a shortcut to anywhere - you'd only go there if you were up to no good). They were detained, photos taken and the police called.

The local police station is 1 mile up the road. When they hadn't bothered to turn up after over an hour security had to let them go.

I went and bought my new bike last night! If the police can't be bothered to come and collect the thieves when we've caught them red handed then I really don't hold out much hope of getting my bike back. It'll obviously be too much bother for them!!

On the plus side - all the offices in our area have now created an "early warning" network. A cyclist in any office now has a list of contacts in other offices. If any of us see anybody acting suspiciously in the area then we alert the others. Granted it might not be 100% - but if it saves 1 bike theft then it's worth doing!
