CTC or BC insurance is a must if you cycle regular - £36 per year. Benefits to you - 3rd party cover, so if you do make a mistake and take off a wing mirror the £400 bill will be covered. You also have access to solicitors should you be involved in an accident - this is invaluable as their solicitors understand cyclists and will fight for the best deal - BC's solicitors are fighting for a long term treatment plan for my knackered shoulder.

Just do it.

I have both CTC and LCC insurance.
LCC is also great for the fact that it gives me 10% off gear in my LBS.

Does the CTC insurance cover theft?

Also worth mentioning that AFAIK you don't need to be a member to talk to the solicitors they use. I forget what they are called but from what I understand if you've been involved in an incident and contact them they'll treat you the same regardless of whether you are a CTC member or not.

Hmm... I have always been advised that being insured for the same thing by two different parties can end up in a whole world of administrative pain.

I heard a story once of someone having this accidentally with car insurance (because of an overlap in the renewal) and there was an incident in that period and neither insurance company was keen to take it on because they claimed the other should...

I'm pretty sure that in this case it wouldn't really matter.
As the insurance is a add on product of joining the LCC and CTC rather then the groups just supplying insurance.

If its' public liabilty insurance you are looking for, the majority of household insurance policies cover it up to approx £3,000,000. So if you have household inurarance you already have cover.

It is sensible to keep the number policies to a minimum for that reason, but if one is a free add on that can't be helped.

It doesnt matter how many policies you have you will only be paid out once. For instance if you have two home insurance policies you will not get paid twice if your house burns down, you will just get a pro rata share from both policies. All claim forms will ask if you have cover elsewhere and claiming twice would be considered fraud.

However this is not the case with life insuarnace, where you can have as many policies as you like and they will all pay out individually.

Complicated isnt it!

I've been looking at this too, but am confused.

the CTC cover is ONLY 3rd party, so I am covered against my own mistakes...but what about the mistakes of others, am I to rely on their insurance...what if they dont stop or refuse to swap details (because I'm just a cyclist).

The acces to the solicitors is just for advice...not legal cover

Am I right?

Like Jez I really want some form of comp cover that deals with theft, and other drivers. That cycle cover thing may do the trick
