It will be down to the likelihood of a claim, is your bike 7 times more likely to be stolen than your car, probably because it is far easier to nick.

Although mine is unlikely to be stolen - I am either out riding it (I don't leave it anywhere) or it is locked in the garage under the house.

I guess their risk model does not account for this though. Still seems steep at about 10% of the insured price.

Opted for BC in the end. A tenner a month, which is steep, but worth it for peace of mind. Now I can get on with enjoying my beautiful new road bike instead of worrying about losing it! Cheers to *everyone* for your advice. Helpful as ever.
