What about the environmental cost that is residual in functioning lamps replaced on the grounds of energy efficiency.
Since most of the new light sources are made in China auditing their environmental cost is very difficult. Less than transparent too. Ask me how I know.
When a light source fails replacing it with the most energy efficient source seems a good idea
But when we remove functioning lamps and replace them with more efficient light sources we should be thinking about the sequestered resources in the replaced product. That is another matter.
