OK, I'll bite. I've had a fairly discreet front facing camera on the handlebars of my commuter for the last six months. I've probably reviewed footage half a dozen times and never uploaded anything. There's been just one instance where I've pointed out the presence of the camera to anyone, a Sainsbury's delivery driver, and it had the desired effect of making him back off rather than escalate his aggression. What I have done is examine my own riding and reactions to poor driving around me. It has the effect of moderating my own response, especially my language, which can only be a good thing. I wonder if police body-worn cameras may sometimes have the same beneficial effect? And what is the correct purpose? It served to give our OP the moral higher ground, but it did nothing to wind back time and undo the dangerous pass.

There's a huge difference between something subtle on the bars that looks like a front light and a full on designed for confrontation Traffic Droid setup.I don't think it would be a good idea for me to have one: I would definitely lose in a confrontation should the driver turn violent after pointing out I have a camera.
It would also add to the stuff I need to keep charged, remember to fit on bike (I use several bikes), then spend time to review the footage.
I don't have anything against others using a camera, but I agree with @Drago about the reaction maniac drivers could have.
I do remember that when I first had my go pro lookey likely that taxi drivers seemed to start behaving a bit better.
Works better when it's played back to the Licence Appeal Panel. All it needs is a single driver with points and word gets around
I reported one for a ludicrous pull out from a junction, and within a week you would be surprised at the change in attitude
