A gentlemanly pootler, these days
Location
West Wickham
Have you read the blurb?
Eg https://www.letsride.co.uk/rides/dulwich-park-to-biggin-hill-route-2

Nobody is left behind and we wait at the top of all the hills. The average speed will be about 18 kph over the whole ride and with regular stops should take roughly 3 hrs so please allow 3 hours 3 hours plus 45 Mins allowing for a coffee and cake.

it’s not challenging like a fast club run which might be 18mph...
That's my stomping ground. Nothing too much to worry about at all there, it's a nice pootle.

Would recommend Belles on Bikes ( Yorkshire Belles ? )... i was swept up by a group of them on a sportive in Lincolnshire last year and they where a pleasure to cycle with .. albeit just for the last 15 miles of the event ....

Quite far for the OP to join a Yorkshire ride from either London or Edinburgh though  (see post #6)

Sigh .... so there appear to be "Belles" cycling groups in various locations throughout the UK ... which was the point i was making ... badly obviously. ...

Never been aware of such around London, maybe they do exist. Can you post a link to help the OP?

Certainly up north of the border https://www.cyclinguk.org/project/belles-on-bikes

LCC have affiliation with CUK - might be a bit too beginner for someone already doing 30+ miles

Cyclists Touring Club CTC usually have Come And Try It CATI outings for new riders. Their normal club runs include Easy Riders which is faster than pootling along but nothing athletic. The regular club members are always happy to meet new riders and share their vast knowledge.

I ride with central london ctc now and again.
They do have a slightly curious system of taking 50p at lunchtime.
I was told that this went to the annual agm nosh up on the Grays Inn Road.
So I made a point of going once.
There's also some crossover in members with some of the lcc groups
Good folk - one guy I knew but haven't seen for years (used to be a regular on my lcc rides) used to reccie rides he was going to lead for central london in his Audi

No one should intimidate you. If you find yourself feeling intimidated by someone, just picture them sitting on the toilet taking a dump. It levels the playing field. 😁
Well .. there are "specialist " web sites for that sort of thing .... but this an inclusive forum, .. and if that works for you .?.. i'm sure it's fine with all of us ...^_^

the only problem with edinburgh is there are some massive hills and the roads are a bit bad for road bikes in a lot of places
