I've just tucked them up for the night. I've put extra straw in their
bedding area, for extra insulation - and a bit of bubble wrap across the
wire front - to keep the worst of the chill out. It's *not* airtight, far
from it so they won't suffocate, but it will keep a lot of wind out
overnight. Just until they acclimatise.

They do look sort of Waffly. 'Tis a grand thing you do giving these birds a decent home after the horrors of a battery cage. Make sure you let us see a picture of them in a few weeks time when they all feathered up.

What is really good to see is just how quickly they respond to a bit of TLC. It shows in their combs in a matter of minutes. When I got them, their combs were thin, very pale and verging on grey. A sign of being seriously stressed (amongst all the other stress signs). Already their combs have plumped up and pinked up nicely, which is a sure sign that their stress level has dropped considerably. Quite lovely to get such a good response so quickly.

That's a description of my hair - my comb has nothing to do...:becool:

I look forward to seeing them when they have perked up a little. Nice detail on the door to the run.

Don't feed them rhubarb ... as a kid I used to snack on it in the garden, and as we gave the scraps to the chickens I gave it to them... luckily Mum noticed and removed it pretty quick.

soooo how will you have the first egg, boiled, fried a small omlette? nice names the chickens must be very happy to be out of the battery hen environment, you don't realise how bad that is.
