Mrs Jeez will be getting an new iphone from Santa this Xmas, which is already more complicated than it sounds as Santa will need to pay a packet to "cancel" her existing contract with crappy T-mobile.

So, being that Apple restrict the tariffs (so that all suppliers are the same)

who is best Orange or O2?

down to what you want really, orange say they have the best 3G coverage over the whole of the uk.
I've got mine on O2 and have no issues with the service i get. but it was a pain to set up, supposedly O2 need you to have two credit cards to set up a new contract. but they only told me this when i had been waiting for 40mins in the shop, least to say i wasn't happy.
Had no issues setting it up in the carphone warehouse.

Don't Virgin now share Orange's network now? I went into Virgin shop to have a lookee & they had the new Blackberry, well it will be out in a couple of days, at an amazing price, far cheaper than 02. I'm with 02 at the moment & it would cost heaps more with them, fewer minutes & actual cost of the phone too.
They did say as Orange was doing the iPhone, they might be doing it too in the not to distant future!
I have no idea what Orange coverage is like.

I bought my iphone on PAYG then got O2 simplicity sim only package. Works out at £10 a month for enough calls and texts for me and only a 30 day contract. Also works out cheaper than getting the hone on contract over 18 months.

Not yet. Virgin uses T-mobile for 2G and 3G. T-mobile, in turn, shares its 3G network with 3. With the T-mobile/Orange merger, the 2G T-mobile and the Orange networks are to merged. It's not clear what happens with the 3G side. IIRC, Orange has its own (separate from 3) 3G network.

I've got mine on 02 and have had no problems, but i would suggest waiting until Tesco stock it as they are bound to offer extremely competitive tariffs.

I think on the responces here, I'll go for Orange as some of our friends are with them also, so we should be able to nominate their numbers as "free calls" (magic numbers I think its called)

Also, the 3g coverage is a little better (especially where we live which is a little patchy)

thanks all

I'm not sure though?
I've been told that Apple are fixing the tarrif rates and that the providers have no say over it, if they want to stock iPhone anyway.

might not be true, just what I was told.

Could be but there are always ways round that e.g. the price of the ipod Nano is more or less the same everywhere at £115 (for the 8GB model) including Tesco but if you buy it at Tesco, you get a £15 voucher redeemable against your next shoping bill. Other retailers throw a £15 itunes voucher in.

spot on

Apple fix all the tariffs to the penny, so its a fair competition (talk about a strong brand!!)

so i am left trying to choose suppliers based only upon air time coverage, service and perks...hence the thread i guess
