can anyone recommend a case for my iPhone 5s that can be mounted on the bars. I don't wanna spend mega money like a quad lock. Anyone bought a nice cheap import that does the job just as well?

Hi, I recently bought this for <£9 on amazon. It's reasonably water resistant (only cycled in light rain but no issues) and is pretty secure. My only criticism is that the fixing mounts are quite bulky and not exactly beautiful but I guess none of them are. I also widened the cable opening a little with a nailfile as I couldn't quite het a charging cable in as well, now I can use a small backup USB charger tie wrapped to it for longer rides.

For a more expensive version I also have a hitcase but actually prefer the cheaper one.

How you find the topeak one Cuchilo?
Well , it's not very sexy but its a water proof dry bag and didn't drop my phone on some fast descents . The clip is pretty small so can stay on the bike when the phones not on it and it frees up the mount for my Garmin . a good bit of kit if you want a phone on your handlebars I would say .

I have just bought the topeak one for about £20 . Not sure I would want to risk my phone going for a wander with anything cheaper .

I got a "cheap" £10 one from ebay last year, now got a smashed screen. So much for gorilla glass :S

I'd be weary of the cheaper ones. I've been using a quad lock for a number of months now and it really is very sturdy - yeah it's £45 or whatever but better that than losing your iPhone to a speed bump.

I have this Topeak mount, very good indeed. You can fit to the handle bars or the bolt it to the stem. Have horizontal or vertical. Come with waterproof cover. About £35.00 I have seen it cheaper.

Robbo, I have a quad lock mount with an iPhone 5 case and cover that's gathering dust since I bought a Garmin.

I'll stick it in a padded envelope to you and if you're so inclined, you can make a small donation to a charity of your choice with the cash instead.

PM me your address and it's yours.

I've got one of the topeak dribag ones. It's pretty good, but not perfect, but I'd buy another the same if I lost it now.

The touch screen is hard to operate when it's raining, it makes the phone a little harder to see in bright sunlight, and on a hot day the phone can get quite hot inside. It's also a bit of a hack when I need to top up the charge.

If the phone did fall, the case would almost certainly protect it from the initial contact with the road.

Caveat- I'm using generic case with an android phone.

Over the years I’ve used:

Modified arm band (before any dedicated cases came out iPhone3G)

Biologic iPhone case (iPhone 4 - I think is a different manufacture sold under the Biologic brand. I believe their products to be different now)

Topeak DryBag (with an iPhone4)

Topeak iPhone 5 Ridecase (the one with the plastic case and poncho).

Quadlock iPhone 6

Topeak Weatherproof RideCase for iPhone 6

My experiences:

The Biologic one failed (the glue on the bracket failed) the case flew across the road, phone got thrown out and chiped the phone all over. I’m sure the new ones don’t suffer from that now.

The Topeak DryBag never leaked. You can connect a battery up by posting the cable down the top. But the plastic screen is crap and sometimes it can mist up when it’s humid. The only plus is loads of phones will fit, where the others are one model only.

I used the Topeak iPhone 5 Ridecase for years. It was fine. It had the issue where the poncho covers the ports. I cut a hole in the poncho to plug a battery in, it never leaked. As someone else stated the stem cap mount is excellent (it the same mount they use now).

Quadlock iPhone 6. I bought it as Topeak where slow to bring an iPhone 6 case out. It’s fine. You can’t hinge the mount like the Topeak. And the poncho covers the ports.

Topeak Weatherproof Case is still the best case in my mind. But a few weeks back, after 7 hours in the rain it did leak…I’ve yet to fine the cause. Even with the leak I’s recommend the Topeak Weatherproof Case.

Another option to a pure cycle mount is get a slick on bike mount and stick it any old case.

My mate uses a Quadlock stick-on adapter on the bike of a Lifeproof case.

Lifeproof do a similar stick-on setup.
