After 200 miles of commuting, I've slowly came to the realisation that birdsong is not going to be enough to keep me going through the miles ahead. Even if it's one earphone for safety, I need some musical accompaniment (audiobook too dodgy?).

That and the fact that the cycling apps and GPS on my iPhone are quite useful have made me come to the decision a dedicated cycle computer would not tick enough boxes for me.

But how do I make sure what is essentially a £500 phone is safe in all conditions on my bike?

Has anyone successfully fixed an iPhone to their bike and used it in different weather conditions without issues?

Ive used one for ages ive got a topeak ride case http://www.evanscycles.com/products/topeak/ridecase-ii-for-iphone-5-ec050395 the one pictured comes with a silicone waterproof cover that is clear whoch is good enough for me and has been fine through lots of heavy rain but you can also get the drybag seperate, i always ise mine for music and gps when im out, i never go on the bike wothout my music playong off it. It is stem mounted to screws into the top of your fork meaning it aint going anywhere. Also includes a bar mount but no idea why anyone would use that.

Does it have a hole for the headphone jack?

Been looking at this and the Tigra - not sure which one to get. I've just realised that one of the main functions - GPS - is unlikely to be used due to it being for the commute.

Music, performance app and occasional text - could be an in the pocket job. Not sure.

Trust me its well worth the £30 for the music and to keep updates nearby, ill be honest i sometimes do text on it which i shouldnt when riding but its good to instantly see incoming notifications ect, strava is great to log your miles on it too, it does have a headphone slot the phone case is actually quite nice i leave it on my iphone permanently

I've used a Topeak ridecase with both an iPhone 4 and 5 for a few years and it's been fine, even in the pouring rain, to allow me to log my rides and play music/TMS. I used a hole puncher on the silicone covers so that the headphone jack can plug in; maybe it now comes 'pre-holed'?
Like jack smith, I leave the case on the phone - it also allows a bank card and an emergency tenner to be tucked in.

Not used it on the bike, but I have wireless bluetooth folding headphones.
They have a range of about 20m, last about 6hrs on one USB charge and cost about £30 in Singapore
If I did want music on the bike, then that would be my solution as no wires
