Bought son an ipod touch for xmas. So what happens when he plugs it into the pc on xmas day?
One of my work colleagues just said it will cost me circa £40 to get updates and 'stuff'. You have to pay for updates? Quicktime keeps trying to get me to download iTunes and safari nearly everytime its used. Have a feeling my colleagues teen was pulling a fast one and downloading as much music as he could get away with.
I'm assuming it would be better to avoid the rush for iTunes and download it well before xmas though?

I have an iPod classic and have never once had to pay for an update. Think your colleague has been getting their eye wiped. Go ahead and download iTunes and stick some cds on there so he has some music to put on the pod straight away.

What Vidor says. There's no need to get itunes, just upload your cd collection onto it.
By 'stuff' your colleague may mean accessories, eg., a protective cover, an arm strap if he's using it during sports etc.,
